HVAC DDC Controls Engineer and Technician

Summary:

Surna Inc. designs and manufactures equipment and systems for a variety of projects in the indoor agricultural space, with a focus on modular chilled water systems for the cannabis industry.We are currently seeking a qualified and motivated HVAC DDC Controls Engineer / Controls Technician to support our continual and rapid growth within agriculture precision environment control systems for cannabis grow facilities. The ideal candidate is a top performer within brings high levels of energy and enthusiasm, can work independently to complete project deliverables on time and within budget. Must have the ability to work well within diverse teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in meetings with engineering and project teams to ensure quality system designs and customer project requirements are met and to ensure successful deployment and integration of building automation control systems.
  • Design of control systems based upon project requirements or industry standards requiring knowledge of electronic or digital controls systems and documents these designs using Visio into controls drawings and writes and test the programs using the various languages of controls systems software.
  • Prepare system installation drawings, specifications, and Manuals.
  • Provide effective customer support and interface while working through the system development phases.
  • Plan, document, and incorporate customer requirements for Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.
  • Analyze, integrate, configure, and test building automation control systems as defined by the project specification or scope of work.
  • Conduct or aid with customer site surveys, gather and incorporate findings on building automation control systems, and provide technical documentation to team and customer.
  • Reports problems to management while interfacing with company employees and subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities as required in a professional manner.
  • Trains and teaches the customer in control systems operations and provides Manuals and documentation as required.
  • Position will require up to 25% travel at times 50% USA and Canada.

Essential Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledge of Computers and computer software packages including but not limited to (VISIO, MS Office, Explorer, and HTML).
  • 3 years of DDC programming experience, preferably in Niagara N4.
  • Knowledge of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and related DDC and building management systems.
  • Working knowledge of Internet related technologies and programming along with web-based graphics. Ability to read blueprints and interpret specifications.
  • Technical certifications in HVAC, Niagara Framework, Building Control Systems, DDC Controls is required.
  • Ability to perform technical DDC BAS programming and / or systems integration checkout at the project in field locations.

Project Manager

Overview – Surna MEP Engineering Project Manager

At Surna, we are passionate about providing world class mechanical system design and HVAC equipment for the Controlled Environmental Agriculture (CEA) industry.  Our team is looking for Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) engineering project managers that exemplify our high standards.  Our projects take place in the legal cannabis cultivation industry for which we provide MEP design, HVAC equipment, Controls, and Startup/commissioning services.

Summary:

The Project Manager coordinates resources and scheduling activities associated with our projects with direct responsibility for job execution and deliverables. Responsible for coordination with MEP design team, commissioning team, and vendors/subcontractors to ensure process compliance and customer satisfaction. Accountable for assigned projects’ scope of work, schedule, company margin protection, and project change orders. We are not an installing contractor and do not provide installation labor although we do facilitate coordination with installing contractors onsite in a design-build environment related to our designs and equipment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for proper initiation of assigned projects following work instructions/processes.
  • Advise clients of applicable equipment and services and assist in confirmation of a project plan to meet the client’s requirements.
  • Ensure coordination of project requirements and facilitate project execution from time of hand over from sales through engineering, manufacturing, shipment, commissioning and ongoing support.
  • Accountable for daily and weekly coordination of resources to ensure projects/agreements are prioritized properly to meet customer expectations and office goals/metrics.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and other internal and client updates following team standards.
  • Plan and analyze project schedules and parameters and set procedures to accomplish system objectives.
  • Communicate with customers and their representatives, including building owners, mechanical contractors, other trades, subcontractors, and field support staff.
  • Responsible for timely submittal of invoices, managing project costs and maintaining accurate forecasted costs through job completion and close out.
  • Coordinate purchase of all major equipment items required for project.  Ensure all subcontractors and or other company groups understand the project and or expectations and continually monitor the project for compliance.
  • Responsible for tracking and documenting project changes and document control.
  • Responsible for ensuring and tracking product shipments.
  • Coordinate scheduling work with owners/client representatives.
  • Ensure that quality standards are maintained for assigned projects.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, and communicating with customers and assigned staff.
  • Establish a professional relationship with the customer and interface constantly to maintain accurate status reports and project reviews.
  • Obtain acceptance and timely sign-off of the project by the customer.
  • Prepare all project close out documentation and issue all warranty letters and turnovers.
  • Facilitate client efforts and requests while adhering to company responsiveness standards.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal work hours/weekends, as required.

Education and/or Experience:

Requires excellent communication skills, high level of organization and technical aptitude.  Requires strength in working with diverse personalities.  Minimum 2 years’ experience in construction or related project management. Advanced computer and accounting/math skills required.

Technical degree, electrical or mechanical contracting project management, engineering or technician experience a plus. Experience in HVAC, lighting, and other related agricultural systems a plus.  Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

Product Manager

Overview – Surna Product Manager

Position Description/ Responsibilities & Duties. The Product Manager will:

  • Develop an understanding of the market for automated controls systems for controlled environment agriculture, to include existing products in the market.
  • Lead the design of the product to meet customer requirements including product performance, aesthetics and specifications.
  • Develop a marketing and financial strategy to position the product in the market and achieve sales and profitability goals.
  • Establish deliverable timelines and work with other departments as needed to meet them.
  • Establish pricing strategies.
  • Monitor competitive activity and articulate Surna’s price/performance advantages.
  • Develop relationships with customers and prospects to gain their feedback on customer needs. This will involve regular (approx. 25%) travel to customer sites for research, beta testing, post launch product performance, trade shows, etc.
  • Develop marketing support materials and methods, including brand strategy, demand creation and messaging.
  • Develop out-of-box experience plan including end-user documentation.
  • Train the direct sales force to sell the product.
  • Develop service strategy.
  • Identify intellectual property in the field in order to avoid lawsuits as well as to identify the potential for filing for patents.
  • Provide aggressive leadership for the product to yield 100%+ year-over-year sales growth.

 

Required experience, attributes, and qualifications. The most attractive candidates will have:

  • 5-10 years’ experience with existing automated environmental control systems in the agriculture market, in either a direct sales or product marketing capacity.
  • Demonstrated success managing a product marketing initiative, product roll-out and product life-cycle.
  • In-depth technical understanding, from a user level, of the use and capabilities of such systems.
  • Interest in leading a new product initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Engineering undergraduate degree, MBA marketing/general management.
